Everyone should read this book! The author, Cynthia Lord, is a mother of an autistic child which makes this book even more appealing. This endearing family could be your neighbors. Read how they cope, love and live and have fun along the way.
We just started to read Rules in a 5th grade literature circle. The kids are loving the book and so far, the conversations have been great. Catherine's brother David's strange behavior is explained and right away you have empathy for her day to day experinces with him. There is enough humor to ease the seriousness of his disablilty as he is introduced through Catherine's eyes. We have only read the first chapter but everyone can't wait for tomorrow's class!
